Koh chang: The headman of Koh Chang Tai subdistrict has expressed immense joy and gratitude, unable to contain his excitement following the Senate's recent visit to Koh Chang. This marks the first time in his 19-year tenure that he has witnessed such a comprehensive field visit by the Senate, which focused on assessing the progress of key infrastructure projects, including the reservoir and the road around the island.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Temsak Serthsri, the headman of Koh Chang Tai Subdistrict in Trat Province, shared his thoughts in an interview and during a press conference. Representing the villagers, he addressed issues concerning the Ban Khlong Phrao reservoir and the island's road network. Mr. Temsak explained that over his nearly two decades of service, he has fielded numerous complaints, but this visit from the Senate has provided much-needed clarity and answers.
Mr. Temsak highlighted that the Department of Rural Roads and the Senate have been actively following up on unresolved issues, collaborating with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation. The road project, which spans two subdistricts and nine villages, has been a focal point of ongoing discussions. He plans to update the community on the progress of these projects, which have been a concern for villagers since 2017. He expressed gratitude for the media spotlight on Koh Chang, a place of historical significance dating back to the reign of King Rama V.
The headman emphasized that only the Senate and the Department of Highways are responsible for the road issues. He expressed satisfaction that the 128 households involved in the road clearing process could see the project's progression. Mr. Temsak, who is 47 and set to retire in 13 years, offered advice to ensure continued progress. He addressed the political pressures faced by the Senators, noting that the villagers are aware of the Senate's efforts and are appreciative of their unique involvement. He expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Senate for advocating for the island's concerns and reiterated his willingness to support the involved agencies and contractors to ensure the success of the projects, thus fostering mutual development.
