Mae fah luang: King Taksin's troops clashed with a drug trafficking ring on the border in Mae Fah Luang district, seizing 2.4 million methamphetamine pills and resulting in two deaths.
According to Thai News Agency, the confrontation occurred early this morning around 5:30 AM when soldiers from the 1st Cavalry Company, Pha Daen Control Command, alongside a special intelligence unit from the Taksin Task Force and a long-range reconnaissance unit from the Pha Muang Task Force, were conducting a patrol to prevent and intercept illegal activities. The troops encountered approximately 10-15 individuals carrying modified sacks along a natural passageway in Ban Pang Mahan, Village 8, Thoet Thai Subdistrict, Chiang Rai Province.
When the officers identified themselves and requested a search, the group of suspects opened fire with unknown firearms, initiating a five-minute shootout. As a result of the clash, two individuals from the opposing side were killed, while the security forces remained unharmed.
Major General Sathit Waiyanon, Commander of the Pha Muang Task Force, later assigned Colonel Suphan Roiput, Commander of the Taksin Task Force, Pha Muang Task Force, and related agencies to inspect the 12 sacks of narcotics and the bodies of the two deceased individuals. The seized methamphetamine pills, totaling approximately 2.4 million, are set to be subjected to further legal proceedings.
