Bangkok: The government has announced the opening of four new playgrounds in the heart of Bangkok, aimed at fostering happiness and learning among Thai children.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, emphasized the government's focus on the systematic development of "child populations." This initiative involves increasing safe spaces for play, learning, and exercise to promote the physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development of children and youth. In 2025, Bangkok will see the addition of four new playgrounds and learning spaces in various parts of the city.
The playgrounds are part of an urban infrastructure expansion designed to improve children's quality of life by providing access to creative spaces near their homes. This aligns with the concept of creating "a city where children can live, and families can live well."
The newly opened community playground in Lumpini Park, Pathum Wan District, launched on December 3, 2025, is designed following Universal Design principles. It accommodates children of all abilities, including those using wheelchairs, offering an outdoor play area that combines exercise and imaginative play amidst the city's green space.
The "OKMD PLAYGROUND" in Bang Phlat District, which opened on September 1, 2025, within Bang Yi Khan Wittayakom School, focuses on learning through hands-on experience. It aids in developing muscle control, balance, and life skills in children and youth.
In Khlong Toei District, a new playground and learning center opened on September 20, 2025, under the concept of "transforming open spaces into play areas." This initiative represents a collaborative effort between the public and private sectors, providing a safe play area for children that promotes all-round development in a familiar environment.
Lastly, the "Science Topia" playground in Watthana District, opened on September 19, 2025, within the Science Center for Education (Bangkok Planetarium), is an indoor playground that integrates learning in science, technology, and innovation through creative play activities suitable for children of all ages.
The Deputy Spokesperson highlighted that increasing playgrounds and learning spaces in cities is a long-term investment in the country's human resources. The government is committed to supporting the development of such areas to ensure that Thai children can grow up in a balanced, healthy way and enjoy a good quality of life from a young age.
