Hat yai: Government Savings Bank continues to help Hat Yai fight flooding, donating over 5.5 million baht to set up a GSB kitchen, provide boats, and provide backup electrical equipment to help during the crisis.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Lapawan Chankrachang, Deputy Managing Director of the Government Savings Bank and Acting President of the Government Savings Bank, revealed that amid the flooding in the southern region, the bank has responded to government and Ministry of Finance policies by mobilizing assistance and continuously deploying support teams to the area. A total budget of over 5.5 million baht has been allocated, particularly in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, which has been severely affected. Therefore, assistance has been expedited in all aspects. This includes setting up a "GSB Kitchen" at Songkhla Rajabhat University, a temporary shelter for flood victims with insufficient food supplies. However, the bank is prepared with personnel and equipment. Furthermore, the Khuan Lang Municipality has provided raw materials for cooking to increase production capacity for sufficient cooked food, a critical need. Furthermore, the bank has provided two flat-bottomed boats, valued at 1 million baht, a nd life jackets to the Songkhla Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office (DDPM). These boats will be used to transport food, drinking water, relief kits, and other relief supplies, and relocate flood victims from their homes. The bank also distributed relief kits and cooked food.
The bank also provides backup power supplies and generators for patients who rely on medical equipment, medicines, daily necessities, and cleaning supplies. These are delivered through provincial government agencies, such as the Songkhla Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, the Songkhla Provincial Administrative Organization, Songkhla Rajabhat University, and the Municipal School 5 Shelter (Wat Hua Pom Nok).
As for the next phase of relief efforts, the bank is preparing to mobilize staff and equipment to fully implement the post-flood recovery mission. This includes cleaning hospitals, starting with Hat Yai Hospital, schools, and residential areas. Building repairs will also be undertaken by the Government Savings Bank, in collaboration with the 76 Ranong Volunteer Club, Dusit Construction Workers, and the "GSB Sarapat Som" project. These repairs will restore damaged tools, electrical appliances, motorcycles, and other items to normal use, free of charge, to ensure comprehensive recovery assistance.
