Bangkok: The government is making significant progress in disbursing aid for home repairs to earthquake victims in Bangkok, with full payment expected by October 2025. Disbursements have already reached over 30,000 families, with the government issuing orders to expedite payments, recommending the use of Krungthai Bank Public Company Limited (KTB) for faster disbursement.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ayrin Phanrit, Deputy Government Spokesperson, disclosed that 44,210 families in Bangkok have submitted documents requesting assistance from the government, adhering to the schedule from March 28 to May 2, 2025. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has received documents for disbursement to 35,045 families, while documents for 9,165 families are still being collected and verified.
Ms. Ayrin emphasized the government's push for expedited management of relief funds to cover regular housing repair costs, in line with the 2020 Emergency Disaster Relief Fund (EDF) regulations. The relief is capped at 49,500 baht per home, and the process is set to be completed by October 2025, with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration ensuring timely submission of required documents to the DDPM.
To facilitate swift relief payments, the government recommends victims opt for money transfers through KTB, highlighted by Ms. Ayrin as a faster alternative to cash disbursement. This approach aims to provide comprehensive and timely financial relief to affected households, aligning with the government's established targets.
