Surin: Fighting continues to escalate today in the Surin province along the border between the Prasat Khana and Prasat Ta Kwai temples. Thai soldiers, while clearing the area around Prasat Khana, discovered that Cambodian forces have been utilizing Thai territory to dig trenches and build bunkers for storing artillery ammunition.
According to Thai News Agency, in the Prasat Khana area, the clearance by Thai soldiers revealed Cambodia's prior encroachment on Thai land by digging canals to establish a base, indicating their aggressive stance towards Thailand. Heavy fighting has erupted in the Ta Kwai area, involving direct and indirect weapons, as well as drone attacks. Both sides are maintaining their positions within their respective territories. Thailand has regained control of and destroyed the temple's upper staircase. Following the clearing operation, it was discovered that the Cambodians had constructed a trench approximately 150-200 meters long with bunkers for artillery storage.
As a result of the intense fighting, a road along the border connecting Phanom Dong Rak District to Kap Choeng District has been closed to traffic since yesterday. Travelers have been advised to avoid the area unless absolutely necessary.
The news team is currently stationed at Surin Rajabhat University, where officers from the 25th Military Circle in Mukdahan Province are conducting relaxation activities for villagers displaced by the conflict and residing in evacuation centers for a week. Lieutenant General Adul Boonthamcharoen, Deputy Minister of Defence, is expected to visit as per the schedule.
