Bangkok: "Sasikarn," deputy government spokesperson, revealed that the electricity price of 4.15 baht is 1.34 baht lower than the proposal of the Energy Regulatory Commission, emphasizing that "Pirapan" negotiated to the fullest extent as a gift from the government and the Ministry of Energy. According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, stated that Mr. Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, announced a reduction in electricity bills for January - April 2025. This reduction brings the price down to 4.15 baht per unit from the current average of 4.18 baht per unit, effective from January - April 2025. The initiative is aimed at alleviating the cost of living and serving as a New Year's gift for all Thai citizens. Previously, the Energy Regulatory Commission had proposed three options: 5.49 baht/unit, 5.26 baht/unit, and 4.18 baht/unit. The Ministry of Energy, led by Mr. Pirapan, proposed a further reduction to 4.15 baht/unit. Ms. Sa sikarn explained that this decision was reached in collaboration with EGAT, PTT, and the Ministry of Energy to alleviate the financial burden on citizens. Mr. Pirapan's efforts resulted in the approval of the 4.15 baht/unit rate, which is significantly lower than the initial proposals. For example, a household using 1,000 units of electricity per month would pay 4,150 baht instead of 5,490 baht, based on the original EGAT proposal of 5.49 baht/unit-a saving of 1,340 baht. Ms. Sasikarn urged the public to remain informed and not be swayed by controversial information. She emphasized the government's commitment to addressing citizens' concerns and prioritizing their interests. "We are doing our best to help solve the problems. Whatever can help alleviate the suffering of the citizens, the government is ready to do it to the fullest extent," she stated.
