Dr. Supavud Analyzes Stock Market Trends Amid Global Volatility

Bangkok: In a climate of global uncertainty, characterized by tensions in the Middle East and challenging economic conditions, Dr. Supavud Saichue participated in the CEO Vision Plus program to dissect stock market trends, the energy crisis, and emerging trends in medical innovation.

According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Supavud offered insights into 100 years of stock market statistics, highlighting opportunities amidst crises. Despite ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, Asian stock markets have shown resilience, defying expectations of severe declines. Analyzing historical data of the Dow Jones Index from 1926 to 2026, Dr. Supavud identified a strong statistical correlation, suggesting that if historical trends persist, the Dow Jones Index could reach 65,000 points by April 2030. This projection reflects a 40% increase from its current level, with an average annual return of 7.2%. However, he cautioned that stagflation-characterized by high inflation, low GDP, and soaring interest rates-poses significant risks for stocks, although he believes contemporary economists are better equipped to manage such challenges than those in the past.

The energy crisis, particularly the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran, could severely disrupt the shipment of crude oil and natural gas. Dr. Supavud warned that such developments could escalate diesel prices in Thailand, exacerbating the high cost of living and limiting GDP growth to just 1% this year. As a survival strategy, he emphasized the importance of transitioning to renewable energy sources like electric vehicles and solar cells. Despite rising solar panel prices due to China's VAT policy changes and material shortages, the long-term stability of power systems will depend on lithium-ion batteries.

In the realm of medical innovation, a notable advancement is the approval of Eli Lilly's new drug, "Orforglipron," on April 1st. This weight-loss pill offers an easier alternative to injectable drugs, aiding weight loss by 15-21%. Additionally, research indicates potential benefits in reducing risks of heart and kidney diseases, improving sleep apnea, and aiding in drug addiction treatment. Dr. Supavud advised caution, noting that rapid weight loss may include muscle and bone mass loss. He stressed the importance of resistance training, particularly for the elderly or those using such medications, to maintain physical fitness.
