Bangkok: Chaichana Dechacho, MP for Nakhon Si Thammarat and Deputy Leader of the Democrat Party, has issued a stern warning to Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul following the latter's suggestion that he might dissolve Parliament if faced with a no-confidence motion from the opposition. Chaichana emphasized that the government should be prepared to face scrutiny and should not shy away from "free criticism."
According to Thai News Agency, Chaichana expressed that if he were in the government's position, he would welcome the impeachment process as it provides an opportunity to clarify matters for the public. He stressed that the government should not be afraid of questions posed by the opposition, as such inquiries are an essential part of democratic governance.
Chaichana further reiterated that the Democrat Party is ready to engage in the process should a no-confidence motion be submitted, as long as there is clear information and evidence to support it. He acknowledged that he has not yet received any indication from the opposition's leading party regarding such a motion. However, he believes that due to the "political nature," a no-confidence motion is likely to occur.
