Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has clarified that the selection of governors is under the jurisdiction of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, not the ministers. He emphasized that the decision-making process aligns with principles of good governance, underscoring his belief that the new generation of ministry executives operates cohesively as a single team. According to Thai News Agency, Anutin expressed confidence in the current operational framework of the Ministry of Interior, highlighting improved flexibility and a unified understanding of goals among executives. He reassured that previous issues of neutrality have been resolved, as ministry leaders now work in harmony with established policies. Anutin noted the importance of adhering to good governance principles, including seniority, performance, experience, determination, and honesty in the appointment process. In response to inquiries about the neutrality of local officials amid upc oming provincial elections, Anutin confirmed that directives have been issued to ensure impartiality among civil servants. He noted that while political competition, such as in the Surin Provincial Administrative Organization, involves candidates affiliated with Pheu Thai and Bhumjaithai parties, neutrality remains paramount. Anutin humorously commented on the complexities of intra-party competition, particularly within the Bhumjaithai Party, comparing it to taking "10 headache pills a day" without relief. Addressing political aspirations during a rally in Udon Thani Province, Anutin reflected on the ambitious seat targets announced by competing parties, suggesting a hypothetical scenario of 2,000 MPs in parliament. When questioned about the Bhumjaithai Party's electoral goals, he optimistically stated a target of 399 seats.
