Bangkok: A shocking incident involving police officers from the Khok Khram Police Station has drawn significant attention after an altercation at an entertainment venue resulted in serious injuries to one of their own. The scandal unfolded when Pol. Lt. Kiattikhun, a 44-year-old Deputy Inspector of Investigation, was attacked by his colleague, Pol. Lt. Chanankit, Deputy Inspector of Prevention and Suppression, along with a group of ten individuals. The attack, which occurred at Soi Lat Phrao 122 on November 11, left Pol. Lt. Kiattikhun with a swollen face, a fractured left cheekbone, and other injuries. According to Thai News Agency, investigators at Wang Thonglang Police Station have summoned both parties for questioning. Pol. Lt. Chanankit appeared with his 20-year-old son, both present during the assault, but they withheld information from the media. Pol. Lt. Col. Kiattikhun also provided additional testimony but refrained from media interviews, mentioning only the ongoing pain from his injuries. Pol. Co l. Jessada Yangnok, Superintendent of Wang Thonglang Police Station, stated that eight suspects have been identified and questioned for over six hours. They face charges of joint assault and have been granted bail since they voluntarily surrendered. Investigators are also considering charges against the victim for carrying a firearm in public without a valid reason. The firearm's registration and ownership are under scrutiny. In parallel, Pol. Col. Prabhas Kaewchit, Superintendent of Khok Khram Police Station, has initiated a disciplinary investigation. This inquiry will work alongside the criminal investigation by Wang Thonglang Police Station. As of now, there is no suspension order against the perpetrator, and Pol. Col. Prabhas confirmed that the officers had no prior conflicts. The incident is believed to have stemmed from sudden dissatisfaction and a loss of self-control potentially linked to alcohol consumption. There are further allegations against Pol. Lt. Chanankit, referencing a past incident wher e he reportedly evaded charges after fatally shooting a lumber tycoon in 2010. This claim is under review, pending further investigation for factual accuracy.
