Anutin Charnvirakul Highlights Thailand’s Strategic Role at WEF 2026

Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, accompanied by Ekniti Nitithanprapas and Supajee Suthamphan, held a press conference to announce the results of the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2026, expressing confidence that Thailand will turn crisis into opportunity.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul summarized his participation in the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2026 in Davos, Switzerland, from January 19-23, alongside Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanprapas and Minister of Commerce Supajee Suthamphan.

Mr. Anutin disclosed that the government tasked Mr. Ekniti with leading a team, including Mrs. Supajee and Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkaew, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, to attend this prestigious global forum. The World Economic Forum serves as a platform for world leaders to discuss economic, social, and development issues at the international level.

"Thailand needs to find ways to meet with and stay updated on the situation, as well as prepare to adapt and be resilient to the uncertainties that will arise in the world," said Mr. Anutin.

He highlighted that geopolitical situations leading to conflicts in several countries are impacting the global economy. Mr. Anutin stressed the importance of Thailand's role in a world divided into blocs, underlining its position as an economic partner and component of global supply chains.

The government is confident in Thailand's ability to find opportunities amid crises. The country's neutral stance in conflicts allows it to capitalize on situations and create opportunities for growth and stability.

Through their participation in the World Economic Forum, the three ministers engaged with global leaders, gaining insights into challenges and preparing solutions for Thailand to maximize benefits.

The Prime Minister affirmed Thailand's continued presence on the world stage. Team Thailand has strategies to handle challenges and seize opportunities, ensuring Thailand remains an important partner in global security.

"Currently, Thailand is not only talking about national defense security and military security, but we will also utilize security in areas where we are strong, especially in agriculture, where we can support global food security," said Mr. Anutin.

In the face of potential global crises, Thailand stands ready to provide food supply chains due to its food security, technology, and emerging industry expertise, maintaining its attractiveness for international investment.

Mr. Anutin announced that in October 2026, Thailand will host the World Bank meeting, further cementing international trust and creating economic opportunities.

"Even though this is a transitional period due to the general election on February 8th, the government has not neglected or stopped its work. We will prepare this information for the next government to consider and continue the work without having to start from scratch," said Mr. Anutin.

Mr. Anutin informed the Cabinet meeting on the need to support government agencies and relevant personnel to manage the situation and advance tasks during the political transition.

He reassured the public of Team Thailand's strength and readiness to benefit the country, emphasizing the control over the current situation in Thailand and urging the public to continue with their plans without fear of external threats.

Mr. Anutin remains in contact with security forces to ensure Thailand's stability, allowing its citizens to continue living normally despite any international conflicts.
