Bangkok: Marco Sila, son of renowned host Laura Sasithorn Wattanakul, is captivated by the art of Thai Khon and is determined to share this cultural gem with a global audience.
According to Thai News Agency, Marco Sila Wattanakul, representing the new generation, aims to preserve and promote the art of Thai Khon internationally. His journey into the world of Khon began with a desire to express himself and develop his personality. Through in-depth study, he discovered the discipline's charm and its impact on focus, learning, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship. The journey to becoming a Khon performer involves dedication, patience, and physical strength due to the demanding nature of the dance.
Despite years of practice and numerous performances, Marco continues to find excitement and challenge in Khon. A highlight of his career was performing the role of Tosakantha before the King of Lesotho in 2024, as part of a historic group of 13 Gen Z youths. His dedication to the art was recognized with the 20th Bangkok Outstanding Youth Award in 2025 in the Arts and Culture category.
Marco attributes his inspiration to his family, particularly his mother, Laura, whose societal contributions have deeply influenced him. His parents' modern approach to parenting has allowed him to freely explore his interests, fueling his passion for preserving Thai Khon. At 15, Marco is committed to introducing Khon to younger generations, aspiring to showcase this traditional art on the world stage.
