Bangkok: Yotsanun Wongsawat has assumed the position of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), announcing his commitment to swift action without a honeymoon period. He emphasized prioritizing the reduction of inequality and addressing environmental crises as part of his immediate agenda.
According to Thai News Agency, Yotsanulok Wongsawat expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and pledged to proactively tackle the energy crisis and environmental issues. He specifically pointed to promoting renewable energy sources, including biodiesel and solar cell engine innovations, as a means to reduce oil consumption. Moreover, he announced plans to utilize university networks and satellite imagery technology to urgently address PM2.5 pollution and wildfires in northern Thailand, aiming for concrete results.
The government’s strategy, as articulated by Yotsanulok, involves a continuous work plan that includes caring for vulnerable groups and upgrading the skills of Thai people to align with the global economy. This will be achieved through two main policies: reducing educational inequality and establishing a foundation for long-term human resource development to alleviate economic hardships. This approach necessitates collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and related agencies to finalize key plans within the first month. Additionally, there is an emphasis on accelerating cross-political cooperation to overcome administrative obstacles, ensuring the interests of the people are prioritized over political conflicts to prepare for future challenges and the evolving climate crisis.
