Ayutthaya: Yotsanun Wongsawat, the newly appointed Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), commenced his role with a smile, unveiling the Action Plan 2026-2030 roadmap aimed at advancing science, technology, and innovation to support a sustainable new economy.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Yotsanun arrived at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation on his first day at 8:15 AM, where he was greeted by Mr. Supachai Pathumnakul, Permanent Secretary of MHESI, alongside other executives and staff members. He began his day by paying respects at various shrines and monuments, including the shrine of the guardian spirit of the Department of Science Service and the monument of King Mongkut (Rama IV). He also paid homage at the Chai Mongkol shrine and the Buddha statue in his office before returning to the Office of the Permanent Secretary.
During a policy briefing session with ministry executives, Mr. Yotsanun introduced the Action Plan 2026-2030 BACKBONE, designed to transform universities into vital knowledge centers. He underscored the ongoing significance of universities in driving research and highlighted the importance of ensuring that research translates into innovative solutions that meet public needs. He emphasized the creation of ecosystems that connect thinkers and creators, advocating for spaces that foster new ideas and research. Mr. Yotsanun expressed concerns about research demand, urging the need to align research with market demands and broaden its application. He is set to meet with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, Ms. Supajee Suthamphan, next week to discuss intellectual property rights in research, with the objective of establishing a high-income nation through science and technology.
Minister of Labour, Mr. Chulaphan Amornvivat, along with Members of Parliament from the Pheu Thai Party, were also present to extend their congratulations and support to Mr. Yotsanun on his new appointment.
