Yotchanan Advocates for Age-Inclusive Learning and Cybersecurity to Transform Thai Universities

Bangkok: Yotchanan outlined a transformative plan for human capital development, focusing on age-inclusive learning and reducing inequality. He introduced policies aimed at upgrading universities, enhancing the T-CAS system, prioritizing cybersecurity, and establishing arms independence for Thailand.

According to Thai News Agency, during the first joint session of Parliament, Mr. Yotsanu Wongsawat, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, detailed the essential role of science and technology in addressing various crises. He emphasized that linking these advancements with foreign policy, social issues, and disaster management is crucial for progress. His comprehensive approach aims to make science and technology a cornerstone of Thailand's development.

Mr. Yotsanu further explained that the country's innovation prospects rely on intensive research and private sector capabilities. Transforming research into innovation is vital and requires collaboration between the government and private investors. Intellectual property must be managed to ensure equitable income for researchers, fostering collaboration between theorists and practitioners.

In a bid to drive the economy, Mr. Yotsanu highlighted the importance of focusing on grassroots communities while maintaining technological independence. He proposed a health-focused economy, enhancing the productivity of sectors like agriculture and services. This includes promoting high-value agriculture, such as Thai herbal medicine, upgrading the medical device industry, and using advanced treatments for diseases like thalassemia and Parkinson's.

On security matters, he addressed the need for Thailand to achieve independence in military equipment, with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation working alongside the Ministry of Defense. Cybersecurity, linked to quantum communications, is seen as a vital area of development. Additionally, implementing Open Data is crucial for advancing digital government and promoting technologies in disaster prevention and green energy.

Mr. Yotchanan emphasized the necessity of transforming universities to be inclusive, allowing individuals of all ages to pursue education for upskilling and reskilling. He stressed the importance of reducing inequality and improving the T-CAS system.
