Bangkok: Worasit revealed that the central government is planning to call for the fourth round of local government appointments, hoping to complete it by October. He also confirmed that those who passed the first three rounds of exams will have their salaries reinstated, but is awaiting information from the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC).
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Worasit Liengprasit, Deputy Minister of Interior, provided this information during an interview before chairing the 8th/2026 meeting of the Central Committee of Local Government Officials. Today's agenda includes the reinstatement of personnel using the existing recruitment list to replace those who were dismissed. The meeting aims to set a timeframe for this process, targeting completion by October. Mr. Worasit mentioned the possibility of setting a specific date, acknowledging potential minor adjustments due to documentation discrepancies.
Regarding assistance for those unfairly treated in the past three recruitment rounds, Mr. Worasit stated that the fourth round's candidate list is usually called upon. However, some candidates from previous rounds, who claim unfair treatment, have submitted requests for justice to the Decentralization Committee of the House of Representatives. The committee has recommended proceeding with the transfer and recruitment from the past rounds before calling the fourth round's list. The aim is to make the fourth round's list available by October, pending the central government's decision.
When asked about the number of candidates needing transfer in the previous rounds, Mr. Worasit estimated around 3,000-4,000 people, though not all may intend to transfer. Once the central government agrees on an approach, the number of willing transferees will become clearer, as candidates have already contacted relevant agencies about potential moves. The fourth round of candidate calling will commence once these transfers are settled.
Regarding lawsuits against removed personnel, Mr. Worasit reported no such cases. The process of recovering salaries and benefits is contingent on legal advice and input from the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). While the aim is to recover funds, a specific timeframe cannot yet be provided, as more information is needed from various sources.
