Bangkok: The commemorative coins celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Royal College of Orthopedic Surgeons of Thailand will be available for exchange beginning October 11, 2026. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Akkharut Sonthayanon, Director-General of the Treasury Department, announced that the Ministry of Finance's Treasury Department has produced these coins to honor the milestone.
The Royal College of Orthopedic Surgeons of Thailand, originally founded as the Orthopedics Club on October 11, 1966, by orthopedic doctors from leading hospitals, later became part of the Medical Council of Thailand. It was renamed "The Royal College of Orthopedic Surgeons of Thailand" under the royal patronage of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The college, which will mark its 60th anniversary on October 11, 2026, has taken this opportunity to commemorate the royal grace of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, aiming to preserve his legacy for future generations.
The commemorative coin is crafted from a copper-nickel alloy and is valued at 20 baht. The coin has a diameter of 32 millimeters, weighs 15 grams, and will be limited to a production run of 250,000 pieces. The obverse side of the coin features a portrait of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej in a Western-style suit, with an accompanying inscription. The reverse side displays the emblem of the Royal College of Orthopedic Surgeons of Thailand, with inscriptions marking the anniversary and denomination. These coins will be available for exchange from September 17, 2026, onwards.
