Bangkok: A woman selling skincare products was scammed by a con artist who impersonated the owner of a marketing company. The scammer offered to have a famous online seller sell her products through live streams and even took her on a trip to see a factory in China. Ultimately, the scammer tricked her into transferring money for the products before absconding with nearly 4 million baht, refusing to return or pay.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Saranyamon, 33, a victim who had transitioned into a successful skincare business earning hundreds of thousands of baht, filed a police report after being scammed by a male and female con artist who impersonated a marketing company. They allegedly tricked her into investing in a marketing scheme and even took her to see a large-scale skincare manufacturing factory in China. Gaining her trust, she transferred over 3,800,000 baht for services and production costs. Ultimately, no goods were delivered. Investigations at the Chinese factory revealed no production order had been placed. Initially, the suspects agreed to a settlement at Pak Kret Police Station to recover the money, but they ultimately defaulted.
In addition, other victims were found to have fallen prey to the same scam, losing over 10 million baht. Investigators at Pak Kret Police Station have concluded their investigation and filed charges against both suspects for conspiracy to defraud.
