Bangkok: Wicha supports the NACC's investigation into private foundations, citing Kan Jom Phalang as a good example, and pointing out that the government should be proactive. Mr. Wicha Mahakun, Chairman of the Committee for Examining the Evaluation of Integrity and Transparency in Government Agencies, addressed the "Kan Jom Phalang Chuay Su" Foundation's acceptance of public donations to support the Thai-Cambodian border defense mission. He questioned whether the committee would conduct a deeper investigation at the foundation level. He explained that while the committee is expanding, he declined to discuss the scrutiny of private sector organizations, which will require a separate review to determine transparency. This review, which may include associations, institutions, and companies registered as juristic persons, is our next goal. Part of the mandate is to expand these organizations' involvement in the fight against corruption. If we want them to participate, we must also scrutinize and evaluate them.
According to Thai News Agency, as for complaints filed for investigation, Mr. Wicha is happy to accept them, but requests that they be relevant to the assessment. Regarding Kan Jom Phalang's case, he believes the public sector is performing weakly. When government work is weak, the private sector becomes stronger and more agile, without limitations-highlighting weaknesses of government agencies. When the government is sluggish and does not rush to help, the private sector can act quickly, as seen with Kan Jom Phalang. Mr. Wicha emphasizes the importance of organizations being evaluated to reflect on their public contributions, empowering them to see the need to assist the public without allowing the private sector to operate without scrutiny.
Mr. Wicha believes that Kan Jom Phalang serves as a good example, noting no negative consequences except for the government's own shortcomings in proactive operations. He suggests that the government should follow Kan Jom Phalang's lead in proactive public engagement, similar to Mr. Bill Banleurit's efforts to support the people and urge the government to take action.
In terms of accepting donations under the foundation's name, Mr. Wicha states that if tax returns are filed in accordance with the law, there should be no issue, and transparency should be maintained to allow for inspection.
