Phitsanulok:Visitors flock to Wat Pharangmi, a new landmark in Neun Mapprang District, Phitsanulok Province, renowned for its reputation as a lucky spot. The temple sees a surge in visitors, particularly during the middle and end of the month, as people gather to seek good fortune.
According to Thai News Agency, the temple's popularity is largely attributed to the sacredness of the large statue of Somdej Ong Pathom Borom Chakraphat, the First Supreme Emperor, which is enshrined on a limestone mountaintop within the temple grounds. Wat Pharangmi has become a major destination for those hoping to win lottery prizes, with visitors reportedly having won nearly 100 million baht. People come from various regions, engaging in rituals such as lighting incense, offering prayers, and bowing before the Buddha's hand for blessings.
Repeat visitors to Wat Pharangmi not only seek good fortune but also enjoy the temple's beautiful natural scenery. Many express happiness and a desire to return. The temple is currently one of the most popular in the area.
Additionally, Wat Pharangmi features a reclining Buddha cave, home to the statue of "Luang Pho Phetramanee." This natural cave is a favorite spot for tourists who pray for health and good fortune. Locals suggest that wishes are more likely to come true if one prays and prostrates at the feet of the reclining Buddha.
The temple's name, Wat Pharangmi, is rooted in the area's history. In the past, bears inhabited the cave surrounding the temple, leading to the name, which means "Bear's Back Cliff Village." The temple and the surrounding Pharangmi village, now a tourist destination with a learning center and tram tours, are experiencing significant growth, boosting the local economy. Accommodation options, such as resorts and homestays in the area, are in high demand, particularly in Ban Mung, known for its stunning views amid limestone mountains.
