Warawut Signs MOU for Vulnerable Groups to Access Zoos Nationwide for Free.

Bangkok: "Warawut" carries a bouncy pig, signs MOU for vulnerable groups to visit the zoo for free. Warawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Social Development and Human Security, took the stage at an event where he signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) designed to provide vulnerable populations with free access to zoos across Thailand. The initiative aims to promote learning and make it more convenient for those who may face challenges in visiting these educational spaces. The ceremony was attended by prominent figures including Mr. Thanetpol Thanaboonyawat, Secretary to the Minister, and Mr. Anukul Peedkaew, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, among others. During the signing, Mr. Warawut held a bouncy pig doll, symbolizing the joyful occasion. According to Thai News Agency, the MOU is part of an effort to facilitate zoo visits for vulnerable groups including the elderly, disabled people, single mothers, and children and youth in shelters under the Ministry's care. This initiative will be available for a thr ee-year period, starting immediately and lasting until November 17, 2027. The Zoological Park Organization of Thailand will provide special channels for these groups to visit several zoos including the Khao Kheow Open Zoo, Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo, and others. However, to prevent misuse of this opportunity, the number of people accompanying vulnerable individuals will be limited at the zoo's discretion. Mr. Warawut emphasized the importance of integrated efforts between various government agencies to enhance the support provided to vulnerable groups. He mentioned that a previous memorandum with the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation had already opened opportunities for people with special abilities to showcase their skills and earn income in these national spaces. This new MOU expands on that mission, aiming to provide holistic care and benefits to the people of Thailand. The event highlighted the global fame of "Moo Deng," a beloved pygmy hippo, who has attracted international atten tion. Mr. Warawut recounted an interaction with a foreign visitor who had traveled to Thailand specifically to see Moo Deng after following the animal on social media. Her trip underscores the powerful draw of these unique and charismatic animals. Mr. Atthaporn Srihan, Director of the Zoological Park Organization, shared the organization's vision to transform zoos into educational and tourism hubs that conserve wildlife. Inspired by the success of Moo Deng, the organization plans to showcase other adorable baby animals through social media, expanding public engagement. The organization's facilities are also being updated to include ramps and Braille signs, ensuring accessibility for all visitors.
