View Kulwut Aims to Retain World Championship Amid Rising Expectations

Bangkok: "View Kulwut", the world's top-ranked male singles badminton player, has returned to Thailand, expressing his determination to maintain his championship title for as long as possible. He also outlined his ambitions for the prestigious All England Open Badminton Championship, emphasizing its significance as a key milestone in his career.

According to Thai News Agency, "View" Kunlavut Vitidsarn, accompanied by his coach, "Coach Pae" Phattaphon Ngernsrisuk, has come back to Thailand following his participation in the Indonesia Open 2025. This notable World Tour Super 1000 tournament took place at Istora Senayan in Jakarta, Indonesia, from June 3-8, 2025, offering a prize pool of 1,450,000 US dollars. In the semi-finals, Kunlavut, ranked number one globally and second in the tournament, is set to compete against Taiwan's Chou Tien-chen, currently ranked seventh worldwide.

"View Kulwut" shared his joy at achieving the world number one ranking and expressed a desire to rest in his home country before focusing on the All England Open. He highlighted his determination to defend his world championship title, acknowledging the added pressure that comes with being the top-ranked player. Nevertheless, he remains committed to learning from more experienced players and adapting his playing style to be more offensive.

Addressing the pressure of maintaining his top ranking, "View Kulwut" emphasized the importance of staying grounded and not letting expectations affect his performance. He stated that his ultimate goal is to win tangible medals and that he aims to retain his world number one status for as long as possible. He expressed gratitude to his Thai supporters and announced his upcoming participation in the Japan Open and China Open next month.

Reflecting on his recent performance, "View Kulwut" acknowledged areas for improvement, particularly in his attacking game. He plans to work with his coach to address these weaknesses. "View Kulwut" has made history as the fourth Thai badminton athlete to achieve the world number one ranking, following in the footsteps of "May" Ratchanok Intanon, "Bas" Dechapol Puavaranukroh, and "Popor" Sapsiree Taerattanachai. His remarkable achievements in 2025, including victories at the Indonesia Masters, Badminton Asia Championships, Thailand Open, and Singapore Open, have propelled him to this prestigious position.
