Washington: The U.S. State Department has unveiled a new, limited-edition passport to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. This special passport will feature a portrait of President Donald Trump, marking the latest instance of the president's image being linked to state assets.
According to Thai News Agency, State Department spokesman Tommy Pickott announced that these passports will be part of the celebrations for the historic milestone in July. While the initial announcement did not specify whether the passport would include Trump's image, a preview released by the department confirmed his portrait will appear on an inner page, adjacent to an image of the 1776 Declaration of Independence signing.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that this passport will include specially designed artwork, enhancing its visual appeal while maintaining the rigorous security standards of the regular U.S. passport, renowned for its security features.
It remains uncertain if U.S. citizens can opt out of receiving the commemorative passport. However, a State Department official confirmed there would be no extra cost for those issued this limited-edition document.
Since President Trump's inauguration earlier this year, his administration has prominently included his name on various government-related projects and assets, including iconic buildings in Washington, D.C., and new Navy shipbuilding initiatives, among others.
