True Corporation Prepares 5G Network for Songkran Festival Tourism

Bangkok: True Corporation is gearing up its 5G and fiber internet networks to accommodate the Songkran holiday period, aiming to connect travel, tourism, and family interactions across Thailand. True Corporation is focusing on the 2026 Songkran festival, anticipating a shift in travel behavior due to high fuel prices, with Thai people expected to opt for shorter travel distances or longer holidays closer to home. Those who travel are likely to spend more time on major roads and rest stops, particularly gas stations, due to potential congestion.

According to Thai News Agency, True Corporation has introduced a comprehensive suite of solutions to enhance connectivity. The company is upgrading its 5G and 4G coverage, expanding its In-Building Coverage network in Bangkok, and utilizing AI certified Autonomous Network Level 4.0 by TM Forum to manage the network through an Intent-Based Operation system. This system operates like an automated team, ensuring smooth mobile usage in shopping malls and other locations.

Mr. Kuram Ashfaq, Chief Network Officer of True Corporation, highlighted the shift in network infrastructure planning to support changing usage patterns. With a move towards more distributed usage, True anticipates high digital consumption during the festival. The network will cover key areas such as tourist spots, temples, transportation hubs, and major roads. Home internet support will be available in community areas as more people choose to stay at home.

In Bangkok, True is focusing on Songkran festival locations that attract international tourists, such as Khao San Road and Siam Square. The company plans to enhance signal coverage in Songkran event areas across Thailand. To support increased usage, True is deploying mobile base stations, adding temporary signal towers, and optimizing network parameters. AI technologies will manage the network in real-time to ensure uninterrupted service.

True has also stationed teams at the BNIC operations center and War Room to monitor the network around the clock. The company adheres to NBTC guidelines to maintain network quality and user confidence. True's plan reflects its commitment to developing digital infrastructure that addresses consumer needs, supporting both travel and a more flexible lifestyle.

To celebrate Songkran, True is offering exclusive deals in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand. From April 11th to 15th, 2026, special offers will be available at Lumpini Park and Benjakitti Park, including free drinks and discounts on food and art workshops. Tourist SIM customers can receive free waterproof pouches. Benefits can be claimed via the True app.
