Bangkok: The Bus Terminal (BKS) is preparing for an influx of travelers today, with 180,000 passengers expected to pass through its doors. Tickets are required to be purchased at official counters to ensure a smooth journey.
According to Thai News Agency, the Bus Terminal Authority (BTA) has reported a steady flow of individuals heading back to their hometowns, anticipating a peak travel day before the Songkran holiday. The BTA assures that sufficient buses and drivers are ready to accommodate the expected surge in travelers.
Mr. Atthawit Rakchamroon, Managing Director of Transport Company Limited (BKS), under the Ministry of Transport, noted the bustling atmosphere at the Bangkok Bus Terminal (Chatuchak) as people prepare for the Songkran festival. Today is projected to be the busiest, with between 160,000 and 180,000 passengers embarking on over 7,000 bus trips, both from BKS and its partners. To meet the increased demand, BKS has arranged for approximately 1,200 additional non-scheduled buses.
On April 9, 2026, bus services recorded 58,431 passengers traveling outbound and 45,461 returning to Bangkok, totaling 103,892 passengers over 6,096 trips. The operations were managed efficiently, with no passengers left stranded. However, BKS advises travelers to be cautious of scams, recommending that tickets be purchased only from authorized counters. Any suspicious activities should be reported to authorities immediately. For assistance or to report issues, passengers can contact the Department of Land Transport or the Passenger Protection Division. Travelers are also encouraged to use the Bus Terminal's online resources for ticket bookings and travel information.
