Bangkok: The Treasury Department has announced the introduction of mobile coin exchange services for the public throughout December 2015. This service aims to assist citizens who have coins, whether in circulation or damaged, and wish to exchange them but lack access to traditional exchange facilities.
According to Thai News Agency, the Monetary Management Division will deploy the Mobile Coin Unit to various locations to provide these services. The initiative is designed to facilitate the exchange of coins of all denominations, including those that are damaged or in poor condition, such as blackened, cut, stamped, struck, punched, or bent coins. The schedule for the mobile coin exchange services is as follows:
- December 1st at Singburi Treasury Office from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- December 3 at Saraburi Treasury Office from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- December 8 at Nonthaburi Provincial Hall from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- December 12 at Prachinburi Provincial City Pillar Shrine from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- December 16-17 at the PTT gas station in front of the City Pillar Shrine, Suphan Buri Province, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- December 18 at Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Provincial Hall from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- December 22 at Nakhon Nayok Treasury Office from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- December 24-25 at Phra Pathom Chedi, Nakhon Pathom Province, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- December 26 at Chachoengsao Provincial Hall from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- December 29 at Ang Thong Provincial Hall from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The mobile coin exchange vehicles aim to encourage individuals who have stored coins to bring them for exchange, thus increasing circulation. The service also offers convenience for those unable to access traditional exchange venues. Each person is allowed to exchange up to 10,000 baht worth of coins per day. To expedite the service, the department requests that individuals bring their coins without packing them in individual bags.
