Bangkok: The Transport Company (BKS) is taking firm action against black smoke emissions from buses to tackle the PM2.5 dust crisis and ensure cleaner air for the public. This initiative involves strict inspection of over 154 company and joint venture buses throughout October 2025.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Atthavit Rakjamroon, President of the Transport Company Limited (BKS), emphasized the urgency of addressing PM2.5 dust pollution as Bangkok and its surrounding areas enter the winter season. As both a domestic and international bus operator, BKS is committed to mitigating this environmental hazard, which aligns with the Ministry of Transport's policy. The company oversees 6,300 joint-venture buses within its network to minimize adverse effects on public health.
The Transport Company Limited has rolled out a series of measures to alleviate the PM2.5 dust problem. Officials are conducting random inspections of black smoke emissions from buses at five major Bangkok bus terminals, including Mo Chit 2 and Ekkamai, from October 1-31, 2025. A total of 154 buses, consisting of 68 BKS buses and 86 joint-venture buses, were inspected. Encouragingly, none were found to exceed the Pollution Control Department's emission standards. Any bus exceeding these standards must undergo repairs before returning to service.
Additionally, BKS is urging bus operators to adhere to scheduled inspections and maintenance to ensure their vehicles are fit for use and to curb pollution. The company is also promoting awareness among bus drivers to reduce emissions by timing engine start-ups and shut-downs at terminals like Mo Chit 2. Efforts to clean and maintain the terminal environment are also underway to reduce PM2.5 dust levels.
Furthermore, BKS is encouraging public transportation usage, facilitating connections from Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal to various other transport options, enhancing convenience and reducing reliance on private vehicles.
