Gothenburg: Several airports in Sweden and Belgium were temporarily closed yesterday after a mysterious drone was spotted near the airport grounds. Gothenburg Landvetter Airport on Sweden's west coast was temporarily closed on Thursday local time after drones were spotted on the airport grounds, although it was not clear how many drones were found. Police said they were notified of the drone sighting at the airport at 4:41 p.m. GMT (11:41 p.m. Thailand time) and were on the scene to collect information.
According to Thai News Agency, Gothenburg Landvetter Airport is Sweden's second largest airport after Stockholm Arlanda Airport. The airspace over Landvetter remains closed due to indications that drones may still be present in the airport area, and will remain closed until the police complete their investigation.
Drone sightings at airports have also been a problem in Belgium. Brussels Airport was temporarily shut down on Thursday local time. Images from the website Flightradar24 showed numerous flights being diverted from Brussels Airport to other destinations. The airport has now reopened, after both Brussels and Liege airports were closed for several hours on Tuesday due to similar drone sightings.
In recent months, airports in several European countries have been disrupted and air travel has been disrupted several times by the sighting of mysterious drones flying near their airports. Many countries have blamed Russia, but Russia has denied any involvement in these drones.
