Trademark Dispute Over ‘Nene Royal’ Resolved

Bangkok:The trademark dispute surrounding "Nene Royal" has been resolved, with the agency having filed for registration and approval anticipated by early 2027.

According to Thai News Agency, the dispute over the trademark "Nene Royal" concluded when the initial applicant withdrew their application. This development allows the agency to proceed with their registration efforts without further complications. On September 11th, Black Lotus Global LLC, representing the renowned artist "Nene" Rattikan Amlai, submitted applications for the trademarks "Nene" and "Nene Royal" to Thailand's Department of Intellectual Property.

The trademark applications encompass three categories digital music audio files (Category 9), clothing and apparel (Category 25), and music and entertainment services (Category 41). The applications are under expedited review, and if they face no objections, official approval is expected by February 2027.

The Department of Intellectual Property is also vigilant about protecting Thai artists' rights internationally. This includes monitoring the use of "Nene" in South Korea, where a trademark was registered in 2024 and approved in 2025, before the artist's rise to fame. This proactive approach aims to prevent unauthorized use that could hinder artists' commercial interests.

Ms. Jittima Srithaporn, Director-General of the Department of Intellectual Property, emphasized that this case highlights the importance of protecting the names and trademarks of famous individuals. Unauthorized registrations of publicly recognized names without proper authorization from the true owner will be subject to strict scrutiny and potential dismissal if clarifications are not provided promptly. The department remains committed to upholding the legal rights of artists and their works.
