Bangkok: Thaksin Shinawatra, the former Prime Minister, has been granted parole set to take effect on May 11th, as confirmed by his daughter, Paetongtarn Shinawatra. The family has expressed respect for the judicial decision, agreeing to comply with the condition of wearing an electronic monitoring (EM) bracelet despite concerns about his age.
According to Thai News Agency, Paetongtarn revealed that her father is aware of the parole committee's decision. She emphasized that the family respects the judicial process and is committed to adhering to all conditions, although they have expressed concerns about the implications of the EM bracelet requirement due to Thaksin's age and his previous prominent positions.
During an interview outside Klong Prem Central Prison, after visiting Thaksin, Paetongtarn shared that the family was pleased with the decision to grant parole. However, they raised minor concerns regarding the use of the EM bracelet, considering Thaksin's advanced age and his past significant roles.
Paetongtarn further stated that while the family had some questions about the specifics of the conditions, they were prepared to fully comply with the regulations to ensure a smooth parole process. The family remains committed to following the established procedures without any surprises.
