According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Natthariya Thaweewong, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, revealed that despite various challenges and obstacles over the past period, including war, global economic fluctuations, and domestic factors, Thailand has consistently maintained its leading position in tourism. This reflects confidence and reinforces Thailand’s potential as one of the world’s leading tourist destinations, as evidenced by the continuous awards and recognition received from international tourism organizations during 2025-2026 for various aspects such as nature tourism, sustainable tourism, luxury services, world-class events, and its status as a destination for discerning travelers from around the globe.
Based on statistics compiled from international magazines and statisticians, it is gratifying to see Thailand consistently ranking in the top five in almost every institution and magazine. For example, Koh Kradan in Trang province has been recognized as one of the world’s best beaches, while the Koh Lanta archipelago in Krabi province won the Green Destinations Story Awards 2026 in the Nature and Scenery category at the ITB Berlin in Germany, reflecting its outstanding performance in natural resource conservation and balanced tourism management.
Furthermore, Doi Phu Kha National Park in Nan Province and Takua Pa Old Town in Phang Nga Province also received the Green Destinations Awards 2026 for their sustainable tourism development coupled with the conservation of local identity and community lifestyles. Meanwhile, Chiang Khan in Loei Province and Uthai Thani Province were recognized as outstanding community tourism destinations that excel in environmental conservation and local participation.
In terms of international quality tourism, Bangkok has been ranked by Forbes Travel Guide 2025-2026 as one of the world’s leading luxury destinations. Phuket continues to be popular as a world-class seaside resort, while Koh Samui is gaining increasing attention as a premium health and wellness destination.
Meanwhile, Chiang Mai province has also been recognized by Forbes and international travel media as one of the top cities for digital nomads, or those who can work from anywhere, thanks to its strengths in quality of life, supporting digital infrastructure, and unique cultural charm, making it one of the most suitable cities to live and work in Asia.
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports believes that this success of Thai tourist destinations on the global stage reflects the development of the Thai tourism industry that focuses on quality, sustainability, and valuable experiences. It also reinforces Thailand’s role as a world-class destination that caters to all types of tourists, including leisure, nature, health, luxury, and the growing number of discerning travelers worldwide.
