Thailand Reaffirms Defense Operations Along Cambodian Border Amid Tensions

Bangkok: Thailand has confirmed that ongoing operations along its border with Cambodia are focused on protecting its citizens and maintaining national sovereignty. According to the Thai News Agency, Air Chief Marshal Praphas Sonjaidee, who is the Director of the Joint Press Center for the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation, stated that the current tense environment in these regions is impacting people across several areas, particularly those under the responsibility of the 1st and 2nd Army Areas as well as the Chanthaburi and Trat Border Protection Command.

According to Thai News Agency, Homes have suffered damage, leading to the evacuation of numerous residents, and some schools have been forced to suspend classes. The government and military are acutely aware of these hardships and have emphasized that the welfare of the people is central to all decisions. Thailand asserts that it did not initiate the conflict, instead invoking its right to self-defense as per Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

The Thai government stresses that its actions were necessary to uphold its sovereignty and ensure the safety of its citizens. Operations are conducted in strict adherence to international humanitarian law, utilizing only essential force, ensuring military targets are distinctly separated from civilian areas, and refraining from attacking civilian infrastructure. Air Chief Marshal Praphas highlighted that air power is used only as a last resort to neutralize threats.

The use of aerial tactics is described as a crucial measure to safeguard communities and minimize risks to civilians and officials. This approach also aims to prevent a recurrence of civilian casualties, such as those that occurred in July. Every military action is executed with precision and intelligence, prioritizing the safety of civilians.

Thailand continues to prioritize peace, employing diplomatic strategies alongside security measures. When national stability is at risk, the government deems it necessary to take appropriate actions to protect its sovereignty and its people. The government and armed forces commit to ensuring no citizen is neglected and pledge to provide ongoing updates on the situation.
