Thai PM Anutin Charnvirakul Attends ASEAN-Russia Summit in Kazan


Kazan: Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul arrived in Kazan to attend a special ASEAN-Russia summit aimed at boosting economic ties, energy, and food security, a government spokesperson announced.



According to Thai News Agency, the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit, running from June 16 to 19, marks the 35th anniversary of relations between the regional bloc and Moscow. Prime Minister Anutin was welcomed at the airport by Russian officials, including Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, as well as Thai diplomats.



Government spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek stated that the summit will focus on the future direction of ASEAN-Russia cooperation. Key discussions will include a working lunch with representatives from the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation to discuss regional economic connectivity.



On Wednesday, Anutin is scheduled to attend the ASEAN-Russia Business Forum before a gala dinner ahead of Thursday’s main summit leader sessions. The leaders are expected to adopt four outcome documents following the plenary sessions, which will address international and regional cooperation, trade, investment, technology, and food security.



Anutin is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with the Russian President to discuss trade, investment, energy, and technological cooperation, the spokesperson added. The Thai delegation is scheduled to return to Bangkok on Friday.
