Tunis:The Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is closely monitoring imported fruits and vegetables during the Vegetarian Festival to ensure consumer safety, as domestic production faces challenges due to flooding.
According to Thai News Agency, the FDA has ramped up inspections at food and drug checkpoints nationwide to handle the increased demand during the festival and the impact of floods on local produce. The agency is focusing on verifying sources and conducting random tests for pesticide residues and contaminants to prevent substandard products from reaching the market.
Pharmacist Supatra Boonsearm, Secretary-General of the FDA, highlighted that the demand for fruits and vegetables rises during the festival, while flooding has reduced domestic agricultural output. This situation may lead to more imports to fill the supply gap. Consequently, the FDA has directed intensified monitoring and inspections of high-consumption and high-risk imports. This includes checking documentation and legal compliance, alongside random sampling for contaminants, to ensure products meet safety standards before reaching consumers.
The FDA reassures the public that strict safety measures are in place to protect consumers during the festival. Consumers are advised to buy produce from reliable sources, ensure freshness, and thoroughly wash fruits and vegetables to reduce potential contaminants, ensuring a safe and enjoyable festival experience.
