Narathiwat: A suspect has been apprehended in connection with the attack on the Bukeh Sami checkpoint, along with numerous firearms and ammunition. The arrest follows a coordinated effort by law enforcement agencies to track down individuals believed to be involved in the incident.
According to Thai News Agency, a unit from the Intelligence Operations Division of the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Forward Command was deployed to locate and apprehend Mr. Mahama, a 29-year-old suspect wanted on two arrest warrants issued by the Narathiwat Provincial Court. Intelligence reports had indicated his presence in the Bongor Subdistrict of Ra-ngae District, Narathiwat Province, leading authorities to believe he might be linked to violent extremist groups and the attack on the Bukeh Sami checkpoint on July 22, 2026.
Officers identified Mr. Mahama while he was riding a motorcycle on Road No. 4026 near Ban Ya Ho, Village No. 10, Bongor Subdistrict. Upon being approached by law enforcement, he abandoned his motorcycle and attempted to flee on foot. However, officers successfully pursued and apprehended him shortly thereafter.
During the initial inspection, authorities discovered a 9mm handgun and a significant quantity of ammunition in Mr. Mahama's possession. Further investigation led to the discovery of a waterproof bag containing a hammock and hiking equipment, suggesting potential plans for mobility and evasion.
Authorities are now collaborating with relevant agencies to advance the legal proceedings against Mr. Mahama, as investigations continue to uncover the full extent of his involvement with extremist activities and the Bukeh Sami checkpoint attack.
