Supamas and Ombudsman Collaborate to Strengthen Consumer Protection

Bangkok: The Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office engaged in discussions with the President of the Ombudsman to enhance consumer protection and implement recommendations to the Cabinet.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Supamas Isarabhakdi, in her role overseeing the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB), met with Mr. Songsak Saichue, Chairman of the Ombudsman. Their discussions focused on improving the linkage between monitoring complaints and providing remedies to the public. They also aimed to expedite action on significant issues recommended by the Ombudsman to the Cabinet.

Mr. Songsak emphasized that effective consumer protection requires the collaboration of various agencies as well as data sharing. This cooperation is essential to ensure the efficient handling of complaints, investigations, law enforcement, and remedies. By linking systemic recommendations with public administration, the goal is to minimize oversight gaps and guarantee that citizens receive swift and comprehensive protection of their rights.

Ms. Supamas expressed gratitude toward the Ombudsman for recognizing the challenges faced by the Consumer Protection Board (CPB), which operates with limited resources. She highlighted the evolving nature of consumer issues due to rapidly changing technology, underlining the importance of integrated meetings. The CPB is open to suggestions and committed to protecting the public. Ms. Supamas noted the successful closure of numerous cases in the past five months, thanks to cooperation with various agencies, including the private sector. She affirmed the readiness to partner with the Ombudsman to further enhance consumer protection efforts.
