Phuket: At 2:30 PM today, six provinces in the Andaman region commenced a comprehensive tsunami evacuation drill, activating warning signals and advising the public to remain calm.
According to Thai News Agency, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation organized a synchronized tsunami evacuation exercise across the Andaman provinces of Ranong, Phang Nga, Krabi, Trang, Satun, and Phuket. This exercise entailed a simulated tsunami warning, triggered from local warning towers, with the public hearing the M2 warning sound that indicates an earthquake in the sea.
The exercise urged residents in the designated training areas of the six provinces, as well as nearby areas and tourists, to attentively listen to the warning towers. It was emphasized that there is no cause for alarm as this is merely a training exercise. Specific training areas included Ban Bang Ben and Ban Ao Khoei in Ranong; Ban Nam Khem and Ban Bang Sak in Phang Nga; Noppharat Thara Beach in Krabi; Hat Sai Thong in Trang; Tambon Tanyong Po in Satun; and Kamala Beach in Phuket.
Local residents and tourists interested in participating in the tsunami evacuation drill were invited to join the exercise at the designated sites across these provinces on June 27, 2025, at 2:30 p.m.
