Khon Kaen: An invitation has been extended to attend the Sithan Festival 2024, heralded as the largest Loi Krathong festival, set to take place at Khon Kaen University from November 13 to 15. According to Thai News Agency, the festival is organized under the theme "Isan Way of Life, Sithan Mutelu," with the aim of showcasing the cultural and spiritual richness of the Northeastern region. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Niyom Wongpongkham, Vice President for Arts, Culture and Creative Economy at Khon Kaen University, explained that this year's Sithan Festival is inspired by the trending faith-based tourism, which has considerable economic potential. The festival will present the Isan way of life and beliefs, encompassing Buddhism, Brahmanism, and Ghost traditions, in a contemporary format. This melding of traditional and modern customs is intended to preserve and promote cultural heritage within Thai society. The Sithan Festival 2024 will feature a variety of engaging activities, including traditional Krathong and large Krathong processions, the KKU Carnival procession, and performances such as Morlam Klon and Nang Pramothai. Attendees can also enjoy the Sitthan drama performance "Sitthan Naruemit" or the Siamese Khon, featuring over 200 Isan Khon performers. Competitions such as the 6th "Rising Star of Luk Thung Modin Daeng" and the 12th "Fon Lam Khaen Contest" will spotlight Isan folk music bands. Furthermore, the festival will open a Creative Walking Street area, providing a platform for the younger generation to display their talents. This includes Cosplay contests, Free Stage and Random Dance performances, and the Miss KKU ANGEL Modin Daeng contest. These events will be held at Bueng Sithan, KKU, until November 15, 2024.
