Severe Flooding Affects Multiple Districts in Thailand

Bangkok:Sanphaya District Floodwaters have engulfed Sanphaya District in Chai Nat Province for five days, with water levels in low-lying areas reaching neck height. The situation has forced residents to rely on boats for transportation and evacuate to nearby roads.

According to Thai News Agency, the crisis intensified when the Chao Phraya Dam increased its water discharge rate to 2,500 cubic meters per second, causing the water level downstream in Sapphaya District to rise by more than 47 centimeters. The collapse of sandbag barriers in Moo 5 of Pho Nang Dam Tok and Pho Nang Dam Ok Subdistricts further exacerbated flooding, affecting homes, temples, and schools. Some areas experienced water levels exceeding one meter, necessitating evacuation efforts.

In Moo 5 of Phong Pheng Subdistrict, Pa Mok District, Ang Thong Province, floodwaters from the Chao Phraya River overflowed barriers, submerging homes rapidly. Residents quickly relocated belongings, vehicles, and pets to higher ground. Local authorities have established evacuation points along the Phong Pheng-Bang Bal road.

All 16 districts in Ayutthaya face flooding, with Sena, Bang Bal, and Phak Hai experiencing critical conditions. The Ayutthaya Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command Center reported significant impacts across 181 subdistricts and 1,200 villages, affecting over 48,000 households and causing one fatality. Essential facilities, including schools, temples, and health centers, have also been impacted.

In the Hua Wiang Subdistrict of Sena District, rising water levels have submerged homes, roads, and agricultural areas. Meanwhile, in Ban Len Subdistrict, Bang Pa In District, floodwaters have overflowed the Chao Phraya River banks, reaching over 1 meter in height. The Prasat Thong Subdistrict Municipality has responded by constructing a pier and providing boat services to assist the affected communities.
