Trat: Senator Daeng Kongma unexpectedly canceled her participation in a scheduled Senate event after the Supreme Court accepted a petition questioning the legitimacy of her occupational group registration. The petition, which alleges that she and another senator applied under the wrong professional group, has led to the scheduling of a witness hearing.
According to Thai News Agency, the Senate is hosting a "Senate Meets the Press" event from September 18-20, 2026, in Trat Province. Initially, 17 senators, led by General Kriengkrai Srirak, were set to participate. However, his attendance was canceled due to official duties. Despite previous confirmations, Senator Daeng Kongma, Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Political Development, withdrew her participation after the Supreme Court accepted the petition filed under Section 44 of the Organic Act on the Acquisition of Senate Membership B.E. 2561 (2018). The petition claims that both Senator Daeng Kongma and Senator Somphan Palasak lack the necessary qualifications for their positions.
The Senate reported that following the announcement of the court's decision, Ms. Daeng canceled her attendance with just a day's notice. Efforts to reach Ms. Daeng for comments on her legal strategy were unsuccessful, as she declined to engage in any discussion. Similarly, Mr. Somphan, when contacted, stated he was driving and ended the call.
The Senate's press conference program includes activities such as a site visit to assess progress on the Khlong Phrao Reservoir and Koh Chang island ring road construction projects. Additionally, a seminar titled "Pathways to Border Security on Koh Kood" will be presented by Mr. Phisut Rattanawong and Captain Rungroj Intra.
