Bangkok: Thailand's Energy Ministry wrapped up the GasTech 2026 conference, generating over $16 billion in commercial deals and drawing more than 50,000 global participants during the four-day event in Bangkok.
According to Thai News Agency, Energy Minister Akanat Promphan stated that the event stimulated over 15 billion baht ($450 million) for the local economy through construction and employment. Thailand also used the platform to advance bilateral talks with 17 nations-including the US, Russia, Singapore, Brunei, Oman, and Libya-to discuss supply security amid ongoing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
Key outcomes included two major agreements: The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) signed a deal with the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) to receive funding for a feasibility study on Small Modular Reactor (SMR) nuclear power. Additionally, Thailand signed a memorandum of understanding with Oman's Ministry of Energy and Minerals to promote energy trade, joint investments, and establish the Oman-Thailand Energy Policy Dialogue (OTEPD).
The ministry noted that these partnerships support Thailand's broader strategy to position itself as a regional LNG hub, expand green power for data centers and AI industries, and advance low-carbon technologies such as hydrogen, carbon capture, and the ASEAN Power Grid.
