Bangkok: The Public Health Committee of the Senate has issued a statement expressing its support for the Medical Council's decision to uphold ethical penalties against three doctors. This decision comes after the veto of Somsak, the Minister of Public Health, was overturned in a significant show of support from the Medical Council, with more than 60 votes from 68 eligible voters.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Prapon Tangsrikiattikul, Chairman of the Senate Public Health Committee, emphasized the importance of this resolution as a protection of medical ethics and social justice. The resolution, concerning the treatment of prisoners at the Police General Hospital, received overwhelming backing, surpassing the two-thirds minimum required by law, effectively nullifying the Minister's proposal.
Dr. Tangsrikiattikul praised the Medical Council for maintaining its ethical standards and fairness in judging the behavior of its members despite political pressures. He highlighted that this resolution protects the dignity of the medical profession and reinforces justice in Thai society.
The Senate, which oversees the country's public health standards, especially in professional ethics, confirmed that the Medical Council's actions were crucial in maintaining professional standards. It conveyed a clear message to Thai society that no one is above ethics, and no one should use power to interfere with justice.
