Bangkok: The organizing committee for the 33rd SEA Games has decided to move the competition from Songkhla Province to Bangkok and Chonburi due to the flooding situation in the southern region.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Atthakorn Sirilathayakorn, Minister of Tourism and Sports, chaired a meeting of the organizing committee for the 33rd SEA Games and the 13th ASEAN Para Games. Mr. Chaipak Siriwat, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand and CEO of the SEA Games Federation, and Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, attended the meeting at the Office of the Permanent Secretary to the Prime Minister, Government House, and via video conference.
Mr. Atthakorn stated that the meeting resolved to move the competition from Songkhla Province to Bangkok and Chonburi due to the flooding situation in southern Thailand. Songkhla Province, in particular, is one of the host provinces for 10 sports. The venue for one sport has also been changed to Chonburi Province. This is to ensure the safety of athletes, officials, and spectators and to maintain international competition standards.
For changes to the competition field, they are as follows: Boxing or Muay Thai, initially scheduled for 13-19 December 2015, will now be held at Lumpini Boxing Stadium, Bangkok. The men's football qualifying round, set for 4-11 December 2025, will take place at Rajamangala National Stadium. The international chess competition, originally from 10-19 December 2015, will be at The Bazaar Bangkok Hotel, Bangkok. Meanwhile, the Kabaddi competition from 11-18 December 2015 is moved to the Chalermprakiat Sports Operations Center Building, Rajamangala University of Technology Rattanakosin, Bangkok.
Additionally, the Wushu competition from 13-15 December 2025 has been relocated to Chaengwattana Government Center. The Pencak Silat competition from 13-17 December 2025 will now be at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani. The Judo competition, initially from 11-14 December 2015, will take place at the Rajamangala Auditorium, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi. The Petanque competition from 10-15 December 2015 will be at Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University.
Furthermore, the Karate competition, initially from 11-14 December 2015, will be held at Siam Park. The Wrestling competition, scheduled for 17-19 December 2015, will be moved to Pacific Park, Sriracha, Chonburi Province. Billiards and Snooker competitions from 10-17 December 2015 will now take place at Thunder Dome, Muang Thong Thani.
Regarding the Cambodian national team's withdrawal from eight sports, including volleyball, Mr. Chaipak Siriwat stated that the SEA Games Federation is preparing to take action against Cambodia for withdrawing just 12 days before the competition, causing damage to host Thailand.
