Moscow: Russia and the United States have not yet reached a compromise on a possible peace deal to end the war in Ukraine, the Russian presidential office announced following a five-hour meeting at the Kremlin between Russian President Vladimir Putin and a top representative of U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to Thai News Agency, the talks in Moscow between Putin and Trump's special envoy, Steve Vitkov, along with Jared Kushner, the husband of Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump, extended past midnight Russian time. After the discussions, Putin's top foreign policy adviser, Yuri Ushakov, stated that no compromise acceptable to both sides had been achieved. Ushakov emphasized that significant work remains to be done.
Ushakov noted that Putin had reacted negatively to certain US proposals, and no meeting between the Russian and American presidents was planned. Despite these challenges, Ushakov characterized the talks as constructive, highlighting potential opportunities for US-Russian economic cooperation.
Ushakov further mentioned that Putin had conveyed several important signals and greetings to Trump. However, both parties agreed not to disclose specific details of the discussions to the media.
A draft US peace proposal, leaked in November, raised concerns among Ukraine and European countries, as it appeared to concede to Russia's primary demands. Europe later offered a counter-proposal. Prior to his meeting with Vitkov, Putin stated that Russia did not seek war with Europe, but if conflict arose, it would conclude swiftly, leaving no one for Russia to negotiate with.
