Bangkok: The Royal Thai Navy has clarified that a Cambodian private company independently dismantled a breakwater near boundary marker 73, refuting any claims of intimidation or negotiations.
According to Thai News Agency, Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachaiyapan, the spokesperson for the Royal Thai Navy, addressed reports suggesting that the Navy had proposed to Cambodia the dismantling of the breakwater in the maritime border area. He emphasized that these reports were inaccurate and reiterated that the Navy had not engaged in any form of threats or negotiations. The Navy had formally requested the removal of the breakwater prior to any conflicts, raising concerns through established bilateral cooperation mechanisms such as the Regional Border Committee (RBC), which Cambodia reportedly understood.
In response to claims that the private company responsible for the dam took the initiative to demolish the structures, the Royal Thai Navy maintains that this action was solely the decision of the Cambodian private company. The Navy asserts that there were no directives, threats, or demands involved. It is anticipated that upon the successful clearance of encroached areas by Thailand, both on land and at sea, the management of the region will become more defined, promoting the resolution of remaining issues through peaceful and appropriate methods.
