Surin: The Royal Thai Army expressed its condolences and extended full assistance to those injured after an incident involving a soldier in Kab Choeng District, Surin Province. The soldier, identified as Private Ratthaphum Thepsiri from the 1623rd Infantry Company, was found dead near the scene, with initial suspicions pointing towards suicide.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident unfolded in the early morning of August 15, 2025, when Private Thepsiri left his unit with a firearm for unknown reasons. He subsequently used the firearm, injuring two civilians in the area. Military units and police officers launched an immediate search operation following the incident. The soldier's body was discovered with a helmet and personal weapon lying next to him, prompting suspicions of suicide. The Second Army Region, alongside police and forensic experts, is actively examining the scene and conducting an autopsy to reach a conclusive determination.
The Royal Thai Army has committed to facilitating all officials in the legal investigation process and providing comprehensive assistance to the injured. The Second Army Region has taken proactive measures by assigning Capt. Manop Sisamphan, Chief of Civil Affairs, Task Force 2, to assess the condition of 32-year-old Anuwat Singhchai. Singhchai sustained a gunshot wound to the right chest, causing a collapsed lung, but is currently in stable condition under medical care. The Army Region is also offering support and guidance to Singhchai and his family, outlining the subsequent steps for assistance and compensation.
