Queen Sirikit Inaugurates 20th Anniversary of Kamlangjai Project at Pathum Thani Women’s Correctional Facility

Pathum Thani:Her Majesty Queen Sirikit presided over the inauguration of the "Kamlangjai" (Encouragement) Project on its 20th anniversary. The event was held at the Special Correctional Institution for Women in Khlong Luang District.

According to Thai News Agency, the Kamlangjai Project was initiated by Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha and was established on October 31, 2006, with the aim of assisting and improving the quality of life for inmates. The Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with the Kamlai Jai Foundation Committee, organized the event to commemorate Princess Bajrakitiyabha's contributions. The project incorporates internationally recognized standards such as the "Bangkok Rules" and the "Mandela Rules" to assist inmates in various aspects, including cognitive and mental development, vocational training, and post-release care.

During the ceremony, Her Royal Highness opened the "INSPIRE By Princess Coffee Shop" and viewed exhibitions highlighting the achievements of the project. She also inspected various vocational training rooms and programs for female inmates, emphasizing the importance of providing employment opportunities post-incarceration. The Pathum Thani Women's Special Correctional Institution, which houses 745 inmates, has been implementing these royal initiatives, particularly in vocational training and employment promotion.

The event underscored the ongoing efforts to support inmates and ex-convicts, with the Encouragement Fund providing financial support to assist them in finding legitimate employment. The project has seen significant success, with numerous ex-convicts becoming role models and over 73% finding employment within six months of release.

The anniversary celebration highlights the dedication of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha to the reintegration of offenders into society, fostering dignity and new opportunities through the Kamlangjai Project.
