Khon Performance “Sita” to Celebrate Thai Cultural Heritage

Bangkok:The Foundation for the Promotion of Arts and Crafts is set to present the Khon performance of "Ramayana Sita" at the Main Auditorium of the Thailand Cultural Centre from November 5th to December 10th, 2026. This event commemorates the royal benevolence and aspirations of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, and coincides with the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty Queen Suthida's 4th cycle birthday celebration.

According to Thai News Agency, this grand Khon performance continues the legacy of Thai cultural heritage, a foundation laid by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. The performance serves as a tribute to her profound contributions in reviving, promoting, and preserving Khon performances, alongside craftsmanship in costume design, headdresses, masks, and accessories.

The Khon performance of "Sita" is based on the Ramakien epic, a royal composition by King Rama I, and consists of eight scenes that recount the story of Sita's life. The performance features exquisitely designed sets and elements, including the "Royal Wedding Ceremony of Rama and Sita" and "Sita's Ordeal by Fire," showcasing the beauty of Thai art. These elements are meticulously crafted to present the Ramakien epic in a complete and beautiful manner on stage.

The Foundation for the Promotion of Arts and Crafts aims to integrate knowledge from expert teachers in all fields—Khon, drama, music, and vocal arts—to provide young performers with opportunities to showcase their talents. This initiative encourages them to participate in preserving and continuing the art of Khon, in alignment with the royal aspirations of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.
