Bangkok: The Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense are set to visit four provinces along the Thai-Cambodian border tomorrow. According to Thai News Agency, this visit comes in response to recent clashes in the region. The Prime Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, along with Defense Minister Gen. Nataphol Nakphanit, will assess the readiness of rear protection measures to ensure public safety and provide full support to frontline soldiers. Ms. Traisulee Traisaranakul, Secretary-General to the Prime Minister, disclosed that on December 8, 2025, the delegation will visit the provinces of Sisaket, Ubon Ratchathani, Surin, and Buriram. The purpose is to monitor the security situation, inspect rear protection arrangements, and implement measures to support residents in high-risk areas. This action follows a clash on December 7, 2025, between Thai and Cambodian forces in the Phu Pha Lek-Phla Hin Paet Kon area, necessitating heightened vigilance. The Second Army Region has issued warnings for residents in the borde r provinces to evacuate. Mr. Anutin has been actively monitoring the situation and has expressed concern for both personnel and civilians in the affected areas. He has instructed all agencies to integrate security measures swiftly and plans to gather firsthand information from military and local officials to devise appropriate support strategies. Ms. Traisulee stated, "The Prime Minister has directed the army to fully support frontline personnel and instructed provinces to prepare systems to accommodate people in at-risk areas, particularly shelters as per evacuation plans. This visit aims to assess the situation and prepare contingency measures in case tensions escalate." Furthermore, information from the Second Army Region reveals that the clash began at 2:15 PM on December 7th, with Cambodian forces initiating the conflict, prompting a Thai response until it concluded at 2:50 PM. Despite the cessation of immediate hostilities, the situation remains highly uncertain, necessitating continuous vigilance by local units. Two Thai soldiers sustained injuries during the incident. The 2nd Army Area Operations Center has advised residents in the four border provinces to follow evacuation plans for their safety. The Prime Minister's visit on December 8th will focus on discussing additional mitigation measures to manage potential risks effectively.
